DEVELOPMENT LOG 06

Welcome to the sixth development log for Boolantics, our roguelike-deckbuilder project.

This log covers the work and developments that have taken course over the week starting 12th August. 

OVERVIEW

We've made varied progress this week, mainly dealing with bug fixes and interlinking systems. The level selection system is coming along nicely and can now be demonstrated in game. This system now is interlinked with defeating firewalls which will mark that level as complete. 

Some more experimentation on the VFX side is coming to with an improved ASCII particle system which will allow for coloured particles, more characters and a better resolution. 

Our sound designer has been busy experimenting with transitions between tracks and new sounds for different contexts, examples of these can be found in the audio gallery.

On the design front we have begun to add and balance new card decks, such as the 'Skint Deck' which will challenge players by offering them limited currency and cards on starting their run, which we hope will lead to tense gameplay scenarios and unique uses of gates and modifiers.

  • Several new deck scriptable objects added to editor for balance testing

Bug fixes

  • Fixed bug where gates that aren't part of the circuit still score 

  • Score resets when starting a new firewall

  • Player cards reset when starting new firewall​​​​

  • Linking achievements to save manager​

  • Linking modifiers to save manager

  • Adjustable variable console messages 

Visual features

  • Improved ASCII VFX to include more characters, more colour and better resolution

Bug fixes

  • Fix bug with tooltip not positioning correctly on new canvas
