DEVELOPMENT LOG 09

Welcome to the ninth development log for Boolantics, our roguelike-deckbuilder project.

This log covers the work and developments that have taken course over the week starting 9th September. 

OVERVIEW

This week the team has been focused on game polish in order to improve our vertical slice, getting it ready to be presented at ProtoPlay Dundee 2024 in a couple of weeks. Polishing the vertical slice entails implementing all of the VFX and SFX we have ready, improving visuals, adding post processing and finishing any reworks we had planned in the pipeline.

On the technical and design side our developers have been reworking and debugging gate modifiers to work as intended and finishing off the shop rework mentioned in last weeks dev log. These reworks will improve the overall game loop making sure players can go from the network select menu to a level and then to a shop to purchase upgrades, all culminating in the player defeating the firewall boss for that network.

Speaking of firewall bosses, we have some lovely new graphics to show that will be the icons for some of the bosses! Alongside this, on the visual side we have also been implementing new VFX shaders and post processing to improve the visuals. The improvements to visuals have also been specifically tailored to enhance the 90-2000s dark web aesthetic we have been aiming for, making the screen feel like a retro CRT monitor.

Bug fixes
 
  • Fixed bug with running circuit at the end
  • Fixed bug where main menu was not linking to a new scene
  • Fixed bug where quickly entering and exiting broke animations
  • Fixed bug with the retrigger modifier where there was no retrigger and no visual feedback
  • Fixed visual bug where hacks in context menu weren't lining up properly​​​
